Jerry Berg, Assistant Professor in the School of Design at Louisiana Tech University, has recently been awarded the Create with VR Grant from Unity and Meta Immersive Learning. This grant will allow Louisiana Tech to provide innovative teaching and learning opportunities in the School of Design by placing virtual reality (VR) technology and training in the hands of educators and students.
With this grant, Berg has received 30 Meta Quest 2 VR headsets for use in the classroom. These headsets will deliver immersive instruction designed to train students to become the creators of tomorrow in the growing VR industry.
Demand for workers with VR skills is growing rapidly across gaming, education, healthcare, architecture, engineering, and many more areas. A PwC report on the economic impact of the industry estimates that, by 2030, 23 million jobs will be enhanced globally by augmented reality (AR) and VR. This grant will help with the technology and skills to launch students on this career path.
“Virtual reality is a rapidly growing industry with high wages and big implications for the future of learning,” Berg said. “The Create with VR grant will enable us to bring these exciting learning and career opportunities to our students.”
