Dozens of Louisiana Tech students majoring in either Professional Aviation or Aviation Management have volunteered to help with Young Aviators Day, both a fundraiser and a community outreach event designed to introduce students ranging from elementary to high school to the world of aviation.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Chennault Military and Aviation Museum in Monroe. It is presented by Women in Aviation International (WAI) and Alpha Eta Rho (AHP), a college co-ed fraternity not associated with Greek Life and open to anyone interested in aviation; to join the chapter specific to Tech, Lambda Tau, you need only to be an aviation-interested Tech student.

As a fundraiser, Young Aviators Day will benefit both organizations.

Cost is $5 per family admission fee, $10 per plate fee for food, $10 per Discovery Flight raffle ticket, and a possible small fee for simulator use. The admission fee is primarily to cover the cost of event supplies.

Organizers plan to have six different event tables, ranging from practical physics demonstrations of air resistance and pressure gradient force, to ‘interactive flight plan making’ using Foreflight. Food will be from Texas Roadhouse of West Monroe, plus there is the Discovery Flight raffle and the regular amenities of the Museum to enjoy.

Activities will mostly be inside, but some outdoor activities may be introduced depending on the weather.
