Presbyterian Village of Homer was identified as Claiborne County’s second-largest nursing home in the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

Records indicate the nursing facility maintained a total of 79 available beds, surpassing the county’s average by 2 beds as of that period. The center provided care for an average of 50.9 residents throughout the quarter.

The CMS awarded Presbyterian Village of Homer an overall rating of 4 out of 5, exceeding Louisiana’s statewide average nursing home rating of 2.5.

During the quarter, Heritage Nursing Center retained the top spot as the largest nursing home in Claiborne County, operating 82 beds. Claiborne Rehabilitation was the third largest facility, offering 70 beds.

Presbyterian Village of Homer had no fines or penalties during the first quarter of 2026.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau indicate America’s older adult population continues to rise as the number of younger individuals declines. From 2020 to 2024, the population of those age 65 or older grew by 13%, while the number of residents under age 18 dropped 1.7%. Over the last century, the nation’s older population expanded significantly, reaching more than 61 million in 2024 compared with 4.9 million in 1920.

A 2021 analysis estimated that nearly half of people in this age range—roughly 28 million—might need long-term services and supports. Projections also show that over one-third could eventually require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
