Senior catcher and designated hitter Matt Houston has been named to the Conference USA 2026 Baseball All-Academic Team, according to a May 15 announcement from the league.
Houston is the first Louisiana Tech University player since 2024 to receive this recognition. The All-Academic team includes 11 student-athletes from nine different league member schools. With this selection, Louisiana Tech now has a total of 12 players who have earned All-Academic honors since joining Conference USA.
Houston, who is from Longview, Texas, maintains a near-perfect grade point average of 3.95 in Professional Aviation and plans to become a pilot after his college career ends. He has been recognized for his academic achievements by being named to the Athletic Director Honor Roll, Dean’s List, and President’s List on five separate occasions. “Staying true to his dedication in the classroom over the course of his collegiate career, Houston has been named to the AD Honor Roll, the Dean’s List and the President’s List on five separate occasions,” said officials in Friday’s release.
On the field, Houston has shown consistency as a hitter despite limited playing time. In 31 games with 26 starts during this season, he is batting .318 with nine home runs, seven doubles, 21 runs batted in (RBI), and an OPS of 1.177. Before transferring from Navarro College and joining Louisiana Tech prior to this season, he had recorded only one double, one home run and eleven RBI as a Bulldog.
