Louisiana Tech women’s tennis team achieved an undefeated home season after defeating Tarleton State 4-2 on April 3 at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.

The match held special significance as it took place on Senior Day, marking the final home appearance for several players. Louisiana Tech initially lost the doubles point but recovered by winning four singles matches, with senior Mio Kozaki securing the clinching victory.

The doubles round began with Zoie Epps and Isabella Walker winning on court one. Despite a comeback attempt by Alice Brook and Maria Tsironi on court two, Tarleton State took an early lead. The Bulldogs then rallied in singles play, with Epps tying the match and Walker evening the score later. Tsironi gave Louisiana Tech its first lead before Kozaki sealed the win.

Head coach Amy Sargeant said, “I could not be prouder of how this team responded after a flat doubles point. We regrouped and leaned into the challenge, and we showed exactly who we are. Mio and Diana showed what it means to be seniors, leading with passion, pride, and an unshakable will to get the job done for their team. This group brings a winning mindset every single day, and that is something to be proud of. We are locked in, motivated, and ready to finish the season stronger than ever.” Sargeant also praised individual performances: “Zoie Epps is the heartbeat of this team… Her leadership, fight, and the pride she plays with inspire everyone around her… Issy Walker is finding her groove on court six… Her energy and joy out there are contagious… Maria’s win reflects her growing confidence and toughness.”

With this result Louisiana Tech now leads its all-time series against Tarleton State 3-2 after snapping a two-match losing streak against them. The Bulldogs recorded their 14th victory of spring—tied for eleventh most wins in program history—and completed their fifth undefeated home season overall.

Looking ahead, Louisiana Tech will close out its regular season next weekend with road matches against Georgia State and Kennesaw State.
