Louisiana Tech University’s men’s and women’s track and field teams will compete in the Pepsi Florida Relays at Percy Beard Track in Gainesville, Florida, on April 3-4. The meet will be held at James G. Pressly Stadium with field events starting Friday at 11:00 a.m. Central Time and Saturday at 9:00 a.m., while track events begin Friday afternoon and continue Saturday.
The upcoming competition follows a strong showing by Louisiana Tech athletes last weekend at the Clyde Hart Classic hosted by Baylor University. The team achieved three event wins and secured eleven top five finishes during that meet.
Among the highlights from the previous weekend, Kaitlyn Washington recorded a personal best discus throw of 53.53 meters, marking the sixth furthest throw in women’s outdoor program history for Louisiana Tech. William Estes also achieved first place with a personal best javelin throw of 55.06 meters, while freshman Annie Jones took second place in javelin with her season-best mark of 39.43 meters—her second runner-up finish this outdoor season.
Oscar Smith won the men’s 110-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 13.56 seconds, while Karo Oghomi finished second (10.35) and Carl Murray IV fifth (10.52) in the men’s 100-meter dash, both setting or matching their season bests.
Relay performances were notable as well: both men’s and women’s teams placed among the top five in their respective 4×400 meter relays; additional strong results came from Brandon Vining’s fourth-place finish in the men’s 800 meters (1:52.46), A’reil Williams’ second-place high jump (1.70 meters), as well as third- and fifth-place finishes for the men’s and women’s squads respectively in the 4×100 meter relay.
