Louisiana Tech’s softball team will participate in the Mardi Gras Mambo tournament this weekend in Youngsville, Louisiana. The team, which recently secured a road win over No. 25 Southeastern, remains unbeaten this season.
The Bulldogs will play five games during the event. They begin against New Mexico on Friday at 2:00 p.m., followed by Eastern Illinois at 4:00 p.m. On Saturday, they face St. Thomas at 3:00 p.m. and SIUE at 5:00 p.m., concluding with Georgia State on Sunday morning.
This is Louisiana Tech’s third appearance at the Mardi Gras Mambo under head coach Josh Taylor. In previous visits, the team posted a 3-2 record in 2022 and went 4-1 in 2023.
After their latest victory, Louisiana Tech improved to a 5-0 record for the season. Pitcher Allie Floyd earned her first win of the year by limiting Southeastern to one run across seven innings, with five strikeouts and one walk. Floyd has made three appearances so far this season, as have Bryannah Campos and Laney Johnson.
The pitching staff holds a collective ERA of 1.56 and has not allowed any home runs through five games—the only staff in Conference USA to achieve this mark so far this season. Opponents are batting .209 against them, and Bulldog pitchers have issued just ten walks.
Freshman Aleah Brooks leads Louisiana Tech with ten hits on the year; several other players—including Reese Torres, Reagan Marchant, Elena Heng, and Allie Furr—have each collected five hits. Senior Jina Baffuto recorded her first career home run during the recent win over Southeastern and now has three hits and three RBIs for the season.
Louisiana Tech has outscored opponents by a margin of 32-10 across its first five games while collecting twelve extra-base hits—ten doubles and two home runs—and outhitting opponents by twenty (47-27).
New Mexico enters the tournament with a 2-3 record after competing in Waco, Texas last week. The Lobos’ Briana Williams leads her team offensively with five hits and four runs scored.
Eastern Illinois comes into the weekend after two wins in its opening tournament but was outscored overall by opponents. Abbi Hatton leads EIU with six hits.
St. Thomas started its season strong with four wins out of five games, producing fourteen home runs across those contests.
SIUE arrives at Youngsville having won just once so far this year; their pitching staff has allowed forty-one runs through five games.
Georgia State is coming off an undefeated opening weekend where they scored fifty runs over five games while batting .446 as a team.
