Louisiana Tech’s softball team continued its strong start to the season with a 6-1 win over No. 25 Southeastern at North Oak Park in Hammond, Louisiana, on Wednesday evening. The victory brings the Bulldogs’ record to 5-0 and marks their first of six games scheduled for this week.
The game saw a complete performance from pitcher Allie Floyd, who threw all seven innings, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out five batters and walking one. This outing marked her third career win against a ranked opponent and was her 31st complete game.
At the plate, Jina Baffuto had a standout performance with two hits and three runs batted in (RBI), including her first career home run—a two-run shot in the sixth inning that helped seal the victory. Baffuto’s three RBIs were also a personal best.
Other contributors included Allie Furr, who recorded her ninth career multi-hit game with two hits. Reagan Marchant, Bradi Gallaway, Aleah Brooks, and Rosalie Dufresne each added one hit for LA Tech. Marchant and Gracie Flores also contributed an RBI apiece.
LA Tech took an early lead in the second inning when Baffuto singled to drive in Reese Torres. The Bulldogs extended their advantage in the fourth inning due to a throwing error by Southeastern and an RBI fielder’s choice from Flores. Southeastern scored its only run in the bottom of the fourth after an RBI groundout set up by a double and wild pitch.
The Bulldogs secured their win with three runs in the sixth inning—highlighted by Baffuto’s home run—and another RBI single from Marchant that brought home Elena Heng.
Head coach Josh Taylor commented on his team’s performance: “Complete team win. Pitching, defense and timely hitting is always a winning formula. [Allie] Floyd was in command the entire game, our defense made plays when they needed to. [Jina] Baffuto came up big for us with a two run home run, and we had contributions from everyone on the roster. Great team win!”
With this result, Louisiana Tech now holds a 52-18 all-time record against Southeastern. Coach Taylor improved his record at LA Tech to 140-91.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to continue play Friday at the Mardi Gras Mambo tournament in Youngsville, Louisiana, where they will face New Mexico and Eastern Illinois.
