Louisiana Tech advanced to the semifinals of the Conference USA Women’s Tennis Championship after defeating Sam Houston 4-0 on Apr. 16 at the Adams Tennis Complex in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
The victory moves Louisiana Tech (17-3) into the next round and highlights their strong season performance. The team quickly established momentum by winning doubles matches on courts one and three, then continued their dominance with straight-set singles victories on courts one, three, and six.
In doubles play, June Vigneron and Mio Kozaki secured a 6-2 win on court three. Zoie Epps and Isabella Walker, ranked No. 70 nationally as a pair, matched that result on court one to give Louisiana Tech an early lead. In singles competition, Walker was first to finish at No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Isabella Garza. Epps followed at No. 1 with another 6-0, 6-3 victory against Nayuma Subba before Maria Tsironi clinched the match for Louisiana Tech at No. 3 with a commanding score of 6-0, 6-2 over Christine Jevicky.
Head coach Amy Sargeant said: “I thought today we had a good start in doubles. We came out very decisive and aggressive. We had good energy from start to finish. That set the tone early going into singles where we went up quick on three courts with 6-0 sets. From there, it was just a matter of closing it out. Excited about our opportunity to tomorrow.”
With this win, Louisiana Tech now leads its all-time series against Sam Houston by a margin of fifteen wins to twelve and has won five consecutive matches against them in total tournament play history.
Looking ahead, Louisiana Tech will face Delaware in the semifinals scheduled for Friday morning.
