Louisiana Tech defeated Alcorn State 9-1 in a softball game on March 10, ending the contest after six innings due to the run-rule at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field. The win brings the Bulldogs’ record to 14-10 for the season.
The victory is significant as it helps Louisiana Tech recover from previous losses and maintain momentum in their schedule. The team outhit Alcorn State 11-1, allowing only one single in the sixth inning and limiting the Braves to five base runners throughout the game.
Bradi Gallaway, Allie Furr, Reese Torres, and Aleah Brooks each had two hits, while Reagan Marchant led with three runs batted in. Cali Bennett scored three times, and Gallaway crossed home plate twice. Ruby Fidge earned her second win of the season by pitching three scoreless innings without allowing a hit. Other pitchers contributing were Campos, Laney Johnson—who struck out three batters—and Ryleigh Shull, who closed out the sixth inning with three strikeouts.
Head coach Josh Taylor said after the game: “It is a good win for us to kind of get back in that win column. It is always nice when you can come back tomorrow and have things to still get better at and learn from after a win. There is a lot in that game that we need to do better, but like you said, we will take the win and move forward from here.”
With this result, Taylor’s record as head coach at Louisiana Tech improves to 149-101. The Bulldogs now lead their all-time series against Alcorn State 18-1 and have won twelve consecutive games against them. Notably, no Bulldog batter struck out during this match.
Looking ahead, Louisiana Tech’s scheduled contest against McNeese has been postponed and will be rescheduled later. The team will next play Delaware in a Conference USA series from March 13 to March 15.
