The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs baseball team is set to conclude a six-game homestand with a two-game series against the Arkansas State Red Wolves. The games will take place at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park in Ruston on March 3 and 4, both scheduled for 6 p.m. Central Time. LA Tech holds a historical advantage over Arkansas State, leading the all-time series 76-35 since 1972. The teams last met in 2019 when LA Tech swept Arkansas State in a three-game series at home. The Bulldogs have not lost at home to Arkansas State since April 22, 2000.
The Bulldogs enter the matchup after being swept by #10 Southern Miss, marking their first home sweep by a non-conference opponent under coach Lane Burroughs since March 2005. During that series, LA Tech was outscored 25-5.
Freshman Casey McCoy has recently emerged as one of LA Tech’s top hitters, posting a .421 batting average and hitting two home runs during the Southern Miss series. He currently shares second-most hits on the team with Sebastian Mexico (16), behind Colby Lunsford (17). Lunsford had his ten-game hitting streak ended last Saturday but maintains a .386 average with four home runs and eight doubles this season.
Arkansas State arrives with a 9-3 record, including losses to #6 Arkansas, Eastern Illinois, and then-#18 Ole Miss. The Red Wolves recently swept Arkansas-Pine Bluff across three games, outscoring them 28-5 and securing a run-rule victory in Game 2.
Ashton Quiller and Lane Walton have been key contributors for Arkansas State. Quiller is batting .347 with two home runs and eleven RBIs while Walton leads with seven home runs and nineteen RBIs this season. Freshman Derek Martinez leads the team in batting average (.375) despite starting only seven times in ten appearances.
