The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs baseball team experienced a 10-2 defeat against Arkansas State on Tuesday night at the Love Shack, marking their fourth consecutive home loss. This is the first time since 2014 that the Bulldogs have lost four straight games in Ruston.
Arkansas State began the game strongly, with their first four batters reaching base and taking a 2-0 lead in the opening inning. The Bulldogs managed to respond with a run in their half of the first but struggled to generate further offense as both teams were largely held scoreless over the next several innings.
A two-run home run by Arkansas State in the fourth inning extended their lead. The Bulldogs’ bullpen kept them in contention through seven innings, allowing only one walk and no hits during that stretch. However, Arkansas State widened the gap late in the game with additional runs, including a three-run homer in the ninth inning.
Sebastian Mexico continued his streak of reaching base safely in every game this season, notching a hit in his 13th consecutive appearance. On the mound, Nick Greaney struck out two of three batters faced, while Luke Nichols pitched two hitless innings.
Head Coach Lane Burroughs commented on his team’s performance: “It was a tough night at the ballpark for the Bulldogs. We didn’t get a good start to begin with—that was disappointing. A veteran guy, and no one’s more disappointed than Kade. One of the positives of the night was Connor Nation coming in calming the storm. We just wanted him to face those two hitters at the start of the fourth inning, he made a mistake and the guy drove it out of the yard. We made a move later in the game, and the numbers say he struggled with lefties, and we walked him. It was a disappointing night. We had to throw a lot of guys—when you’re in a double midweek and you get in trouble early, a lot of guys will get opportunities. We’re still figuring out who we can rely on and who we can’t. I always say the cream rises to the top. Right now, we’ve got some guys that are struggling to win jobs. Quite frankly, we’ve had some guys miss games due to the flu and missed games they probably would’ve started. It’s not about the loss—I didn’t feel like we competed tonight, again it’s on me. This has nothing to do with the weekend. I’ve spent 10 years trying to build this thing into a team that plays hard and a team that’s known for its toughness. That’s the best compliment a coach can give, when another coach says your team plays hard. Right now, some guys are scuffling, and it’s affecting them in a lot of different ways, and this game will do that to you. It’s a very mental game. We’re right in the middle of a storm, and we’ve been in a bunch of them and we’ll get through it.”
