LA Tech Bulldogs will begin their postseason in the Conference USA Baseball Championship against Sam Houston on May 20 at Mickey Dunn Stadium in Kennesaw, Georgia. The first pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m. Central Time.
The matchup holds significance as both teams recently concluded a series, with LA Tech securing two wins out of three games against Sam Houston. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series between the programs, winning 13 of their last 21 meetings since 1990.
Declan Dahl, who was named Conference USA Newcomer of the Year and selected to the First Team All-Conference USA, is expected to start for LA Tech. Dahl is approaching notable milestones, needing three more strikeouts to tie for ninth-most in a single season in program history and four more to become just the ninth Bulldog ever with at least 100 strikeouts in one year. He will be matched up against Sam Houston’s Ryan Peterson, whose earned run average of 2.86 leads all pitchers in Conference USA this season and whose total of 102 strikeouts ties him for most in the league.
Both starting pitchers previously faced each other during last week’s series but were held to limited pitch counts ahead of postseason play; neither received a decision from that contest.
Trey Hawsey was also recognized Tuesday by being named to the All-Conference USA Second Team. Hawsey leads LA Tech with a .332 batting average and has recorded over seventy hits this season. He is four home runs away from reaching ninth place on LA Tech’s single-season list and eleven away from entering the program’s all-time top ten.
