Louisiana Tech’s softball team was eliminated from the Conference USA Tournament following a 5-2 loss to Western Kentucky, according to a May 8 announcement. The game took place at Delaware Softball Diamond, ending LA Tech’s season with a record of 31-25.
The outcome marks the end of the Bulldogs’ postseason run and highlights their performance throughout the tournament. Alannah Rogers led LA Tech at the plate, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Jina Baffuto added two hits, while Bradi Gallaway contributed one hit as well. Despite these efforts, LA Tech was outhit by Western Kentucky nine to six.
LA Tech scored first in the opening inning when Allie Furr reached on an error and later crossed home on Rogers’ RBI single. Western Kentucky responded in their half of the inning with Annie White doubling home Jenna Blanton to tie it up. The Bulldogs regained a brief lead in the third after Gracie Flores walked and later scored on a wild pitch.
Western Kentucky secured their victory by scoring three runs in the fourth inning, including an RBI bunt single from Katie Murphy and a two-run double by Blanton. An insurance run came in the fifth on Anna Mauck’s RBI double for WKU. Although LA Tech mounted threats late in the game—Baffuto notched her second hit in the sixth and Furr drew a leadoff walk in the seventh—Western Kentucky ended any comeback hopes with a game-ending double play.
Josh Taylor now holds a record of 166-116 as head coach at LA Tech. The Bulldogs finish with an all-time record of 15-16 in Conference USA tournament games. Rogers registered her seventh multi-hit game this season while Baffuto logged her sixth.
