The LA Tech Bulldogs men’s baseball team will travel to Lake Charles to play against the McNeese Cowboys on April 21, according to an announcement on Apr. 20. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. first pitch at Joe Miller Ballpark.
This matchup is significant as it features two in-state teams with a long history of competition. LA Tech leads the all-time series against McNeese, having won 101 out of their 157 meetings since 1954.
Earlier this season, the Cowboys defeated the Bulldogs 8-3 at Love Shack, but LA Tech has won seven of the last eight games between these teams. The previous series played in Lake Charles saw the Bulldogs secure victories by scores of 21-5 and 11-3.
Sophomore first baseman Trey Hawsey has been performing strongly for LA Tech this season, leading Conference USA in total bases and ranking among the top five through April 19 in both base hits and home runs. Hawsey also leads his team with seven three-hit games and eighteen multi-hit games this year, tying Colby Lunsford for the longest hitting streak at ten games. His .323 batting average ranks fifteenth in the conference.
For McNeese, Matt Stancliff leads with a .329 average and is perfect on stolen base attempts with eighteen steals from eighteen tries. Danny Barbero has contributed significantly as well, leading his team in doubles (11), home runs (7), RBIs (39), OPS (1.007), slugging (.547), and OBP (.460).
