The LA Tech Bulldogs baseball team earned a 5-3 victory over Middle Tennessee on April 12, completing a three-game sweep at the Love Shack. The win marked the Bulldogs’ sixth straight, their longest winning streak since last year.
This result is significant for the Bulldogs as it not only gives them their second Conference USA sweep of the season but also demonstrates an improvement in form compared to two weeks ago. The team’s resilience and ability to secure wins in close games has been notable during this stretch.
The game began with Casey McCoy hitting his first career triple, driving in Wesley Scott and opening up scoring for LA Tech. Cade Patterson and Brecken Menuet contributed further runs in the first inning. Landon Fontenot started strong on the mound, retiring seven consecutive batters before allowing a hit in the third inning. However, Middle Tennessee responded with three runs in the fourth to tie the game.
A double from Colby Lunsford and timely hitting by Colton Coates gave LA Tech a go-ahead run in the seventh inning. Riley Fisher earned the win after pitching an inning and striking out two batters, while Thomas Allen secured his second save of the season by closing out the final two innings efficiently.
Head Coach Lane Burroughs said, “I’m just extremely proud of our guys. We say it all the time in our program—Sunday is about toughness, and we call it Championship Sunday… Today wasn’t pretty, it was gritty… I thought Landon Fontenot was outstanding… I’m very proud of Landon.” He continued to praise contributions from Connor Nation, Nate Crider, Fisher, Allen, and key offensive moments from players like Coates and McCoy: “Just extremely proud of our guys. When you’re in winning streaks like we are right now, you have to find a way to win… Instead of finding a way to not win, they’re finding ways to win the ball game now.” Burroughs highlighted strategic defensive changes late in tight situations that helped secure important outs.
Looking ahead, LA Tech will host Little Rock Trojans at home on Tuesday evening for their next matchup.
