The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs baseball team will travel to Mobile, Alabama, for a three-game series against the South Alabama Jaguars at Stanky Field. This marks LA Tech’s first return to Mobile since 2000, when they won two out of three games.

LA Tech is aiming to end a five-game losing streak after recent losses to Southern Miss and Arkansas State. The Bulldogs have not experienced a losing streak of this length since last season, nor have they lost five consecutive home games since 2014.

Despite challenges at the plate, three LA Tech players—Casey McCoy, Colby Lunsford, and Sebastian Mexico—enter the weekend batting over .320. McCoy leads with a .364 average, seven runs scored, two doubles, and two home runs. Lunsford and Mexico are tied for the most hits on the team with 17 each. Lunsford has a 1.171 OPS through 14 starts at third base and is among three Bulldogs with double-digit RBIs. Both Lunsford and Mexico recently had their 10-game hitting streaks ended during the Southern Miss series.

South Alabama comes into the matchup with a 10-3 record and a four-game winning streak. The Jaguars defeated UAB 11-1 earlier in the week and swept West Georgia by outscoring them 30-11 across three games.

Brennon Wright is currently one of Division I’s top hitters with a .511 average, ranking fifth nationally. He also leads South Alabama with 16 runs scored and an OPS of 1.240. Five Jaguars players have recorded at least ten RBIs so far this season. Blake Guerin leads in RBIs with 16 along with four home runs and four doubles while maintaining a .333 average.

On the mound, Daniel Gonzalez is projected as one of South Alabama’s starters against LA Tech. Gonzalez holds a 1-0 record in three starts with a team-best ERA of 1.59 and has struck out 21 batters this season—the highest on his team.

Mitchell Heel is expected to start the opening game for South Alabama; he has posted a 2-0 record in three starts with an ERA of 4.20 over fifteen innings pitched.

Ryland Bozenhard may make his first start of the season during this series after appearing twice previously without recording a decision.
