The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs lost their final regular season baseball game to Sam Houston with a score of 6-0 on May 16 at the Love Shack.
This loss marks the end of the regular season for the Bulldogs, who finish with a record of 33-23 overall and 19-11 in Conference USA. Despite the defeat, Louisiana Tech has clinched the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Conference USA Baseball Championship.
During Saturday’s game, pitcher Luke Cooley started strong by retiring the first five batters he faced and striking out two early opponents. However, Sam Houston responded with three consecutive hits in the second inning to take a two-run lead. The Bearkats extended their advantage throughout the game, scoring additional runs after capitalizing on hits and errors by Louisiana Tech.
Casey McCoy recorded both of Louisiana Tech’s hits through five innings, while Nate Crider provided relief pitching in the sixth inning by allowing no runs and collecting three strikeouts. The Bearkats pulled away late in the contest, scoring three more runs in the eighth inning after several errors and key hits.
With regular season play concluded, Louisiana Tech will begin postseason competition as they face No. 8 seed Sam Houston again on Wednesday, May 20 at Kennesaw State’s Mickey Dunn Stadium in Kennesaw, Georgia.
